‘So often I read in the media both nationally and locally about poor and anti-social behaviour in our community and it saddens me. In each case when a young person or child struggles in life, there can be many reasonings….life is tough after all and we all need support sometimes, especially parents. Often, the lack of an important role model, structure and boundaries results in a missing a sense of belonging, perhaps needing to be part of a safe environment where one can achieve as an individual. All this has been exacerbated because of the COVID era which saw an exponential increase in poor mental health, especially the exponential growth in anxiety.
I believe sincerely that ‘Western Wing Chun’ could be the answer you’ve been searching for. Under my guidance I can provide personal 1 to 1 sessions using martial arts as the vehicle in order to grow their confidence and lower their anxiety levels (under 18 require presence of a parent/guardian).
Martial Arts shouldn’t ever be just about learning self-defence or kicking/punching pads. In Western Wing Chun I teach the importance of mutual respect, dedication, communication, good etiquette, manners and the message that without sustained effort, we seldom achieve….. after all Kung Fu translated, means ‘Hard work’.
As well as teaching modern self-defence methods, I also teach patterns/forms where a sequence of movements have to be memorised. This trains coordination, balance, promotes concentration and mental clarity. In those moments when you focus on the art, life stresses can for those moments, disappear, like when one would meditate.
Recently I spent 6 months working with the County Council using my martial arts skills to motive young people who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). Thank you for your time.’
Instilling the importance of personal responsibility is centre for any individual to be truly happy. So the next time you speak to someone who is struggling, ask them this one question…….When was the last time you did something in your life to make it better’.

‘My son had been bullied at school and become quite withdrawn before he started with Dean, so he first needed to build confidence in order to feel comfortable within a group class environment. Dean’s weekly 1 to 1 sessions with my son have boosted his inner strength & self-belief beyond measure and - even after just one month - he is visibly happier & feels empowered. Dean clearly has a great understanding of how to connect with younger learners & quickly instills his own respect and passion for martial arts in his students. True testimony I believe to Dean’s wide experience and extensive training. His quiet, relaxed approach instantly puts my son at ease, so that he is more receptive - and is always sad to leave at the end of the session!
